Numerology: How To Do It & What Your Numbers Mean

by Courtney Somer

Numerology, like Astrology, can be somewhat addictive. I had always been interested in my ‘numbers’ but never truly understood their meaning. During my yoga training, we were taught how to really do numerology, little did I know I had been doing it wrong for years, and how in depth the information can get – down to your karma, what drives your personality and what colors are better for you to wear! Here’s a guide on how to do them, the Yogic way, and what they mean.

First, work out your numbers based on your birth day, month and year as outlined below. These will give you numbers that correspond to different meanings of aspects of yourself. Then read below to see what your numbers mean in relation to the 10 subtle bodies, including signs that you are strong or weak in this area and how to master it. The 1st 5 subtle bodies are related more to the physical body and 6 through 10 are more etheric. There are also more links on the subject listed at the bottom if you want to get a full explanation of what your numbers mean.

Using the following chart, here is how to do your numerology:

GIFTS                               CHALLENGES

1. Soul                                 3. Gift

2. Mastery/Karma               4. Knowledge                     5. Path

1. The Soul # is the day you were born & corresponds to the inner workings of a person. It impacts how you make decisions and is the force behind your personality.

2. The Mastery/Karma # is the month you were born & corresponds to your homework assignment in this lifetime, what you carry within you including certain challenges & opportunities. It also works with your relationships, so if you need work in this area, look to this number.

3. The Gift # is the last 2 digits of the year you were born & corresponds to the gifts and talents you hold in this lifetime, what you are naturally good at.

4. The Knowledge # is the last 4 digits of the year you were born & corresponds to your destiny, what you bring into this lifetime. and that which is what you most likely mastered in a previous life. Your wisdom and expertise and that which affects your inner language.

5. Path # is the day + month + year corresponds to your fulfillment in life and where you find the greatest joy. It is important to consider this in regards to your career and your goals in life so that they are in sync.

Any number above 11, you add it together, and continue adding the total until you get a number below 11. You can also do other important numbers in your life, such as your street address.

So for example, my birthday is 05 (month), 27 (day), 1977

My soul # is the day I was born:  2+7 = 9 Subtle body

My mastery # is the month I was born: 5 Physical Body

My gift # is the last 2 digits of the year: 7+7=14, 1+4 =5 Physical Body

My knowledge # is the 4 digits of the year: 1+9+7+7 = 24, 2+4=6 Arcline

My path # is the day + month + year, so 9 + 5 + 6 = 20, 2+0 = 2 Negative Mind
